GE14 | Lim Kit Siang is hoping that Pakatan Harapan will clinch 119 parliamentary seats in Wednesday's general election to form the next federal government.
“I hope we can win more than half (of the 222 parliamentary seats). Perhaps 119 seats.
“Our target was 120 parliamentary seats. But we lost Batu,” the DAP veteran told the Chinese media in an interview at the Senai airport in Johor.
PKR vice-president Tian Chua was disqualified from contesting the Batu seat on nomination day (April 28) due to a fine imposed for a previous criminal case.
Harapan has since endorsed 22-year-old independent candidate K Prabakaran for the seat.
Meanwhile, Lim said it still remained to be seen whether the Malay tsunami would be powerful enough to oust BN and caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak from power.
“Is there a Malay tsunami? I think it is happening.
“Question is can this wave explode on polling day and subsequently defeat (BN chairperson) Najib Abdul Razak, Umno and BN.
“Undoubtedly, there is a Malay tsunami... I hope to see a Malay, Chinese, Indian tsunami. If Sabah and Sarawak have tsunamis, it would be even better,” he added.
Lim, who was once a staunch critic of Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, said the latter would not be allowed to rule with an iron fist again if the coalition wins Putrajaya.
He said, unlike the BN structure where Umno lords over the other component parties, Harapan consisted of four equal partners.
“BN's consensus deceives the people. In Harapan, the prime minister and deputy prime minister candidates were discussed in the presidential council and decided on consensus,” he added.
According to Lim, Mahathir is acclimatising himself to Harapan's version of consensus and therefore, there is no structure which would allow him to rule with an iron fist.
